The 2009 Relay for Life fundraising season for Grayson County will begin on October 28 at the Centre on Main.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on that night, teams can register early for $50 per team, instead of the previous charge of $75.

Relay Chairman Elizabeth Mattingly said the teams wanted to get an early start for 2009.

“”The Kick-Off event is not usually until early spring,” explained Mattingly, “but several teams have requested an early start this year, so we decided to grant their wish.”

A chili cook-off will also take place on that night. Out-of-county judges will be in attendance to choose who makes the best chili in the county. The winner will receive a trophy to showcase during the 2009 Relay ceremony, held on the football field of the Grayson County High School.

Only teams who register and pay the $50 fee that night are eligible to participate in the cook-off.

Grayson County resident Gloria Burnett will be the guest speaker for the night. Burnett is a breast cancer survivor.

For questions or comments call Mattingly by phone at 270-879-3975 or 270-230-5415.
