The nationally franchised restaurant chain Wendy’s will soon be opening a store in Leitchfield.

Applications are being accepted and bids are being turned in for renovations, all in anticipations of the restaurant’s arrival.

“We are accepting bids from contacts to do the renovations until Friday,” said Carol Meyers, real estate manager for BR Assoc, Inc. ‘What we are doing is mostly cosmetic and hope to have the work completed in the next 45 days.”

Applications are being accepted at Centre on the Main on Wednesday, October 15 between 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“We hope to hire around 50 people,” said Wendy’s Director of Operations Randy Philips.  “We have the management people hired and will hire opening and closing crews first.”

The restaurant dinning room will be open seven days a weeks from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.  with the drive through staying open until 1 a.m.

“We will start by hiring 10 people and they will train at two different locations,” said Phillips. “Then we may hire 20 people and another 20 people later.”

The anticipated opening date is December 1.

“The opening date depends a lot on the contractors and how quickly we can get things together,” said Phillips.

Wendy’s will be located at 715 South Main Street, where Burger King was previously located.

When Dave Thomas opened the first Wendy’s Old Fashioned Hamburger restaurant in 1969, it all began with a single restaurant in Columbus, Ohio.

Today Wendy’s/Arby’s Group, Inc. is the nation’s third largest quick service restaurant company and is comprised of the Wendy’s® and Arby’s® brands, two companies distinguished by traditions of quality food and service.

The company, with approximately $12 billion in system-wide sales, owns or franchises over 10,000 restaurants.

Wendy’s menu consists primarily of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, French fries and beverages.
