“The weather was wonderful. These last two years have been very good. Saturday’s numbers were up from last year though,” pointed out Honeyfest Coordinator Vanda Ray.
She added there were 60 floats in this year’s parade.
“The competition was just great,” she continued. “There were few break-ups in the parade, everybody seemed to have a really good time.”
There were 96 craft booths set up beside the Bank of Clarkson on Saturday.
According to Ray, vendors who live several hours away from Clarkson brought in merchandise to be sold during the Honeyfest.
Ray said Thursday night was bigger than ever. She credits the larger turnout to it being armband night for carnival rides.
Kids were able to purchase an armband for $12, allowing for unlimited carnival rides that night.
“A lot of families make it a tradition to come here every year to visit relatives, and to be here for Honeyfest,” said Ray. “It is just wonderful to see the people getting to come together like that.”
Attendance increased this year in the contests also. There were 35 singers who participated in the karaoke competition, over 80 in the 5K Run and Walk, and the hat contest even showed increased participation numbers.
Ray said what amazes her most though is the growth of the Honeyfest parade over the years.
“It is such a great theme that drives people, and also good community support,” added Ray.
The Honeyfest committee strives to make the festival a community event for all, with proceeds from some of the events going to local organizations.
Funds raised from the beauty contest and the hay ride go to the Clarkson Fire Department.
Proceeds from the 5K Walk and Run go to the Grayson County Track and Field program.
Ray explained, “We try to help out everyone we can.”
She added that she wanted to thank her family, as well as the Honeyfest committee, for their continued support in helping out with the festivities.
“I could not put this on without the support of my committee. They are some of the best people to work with,” said Ray.
