The winds were courtesy of the remnants of Hurricane Gustav, which had roared up the Mississippi River and was whirling about in the Great Lakes area. Moist air from the Gulf came whipping across Kentucky up to the big low, making conditions on the course very difficult for the golfers.
But this year the Cougars are blessed with a stable of solid golfers, and they easily handled the Bruin JVs by 21 strokes, 190-211. The Lady Cougars also had an easy time of it, beating the Lady Bruins by 19 strokes, 211-230.
Four Cougars came in with scores under 50, led by junior Cody Mattingly’s 46. Junior Brett Stone was just a stroke behind Mattingly at 47, while freshman Seth Beatty had a 48 and eighth-grader Nolan White shot a 49. Junior Tyler Lewis finished just out of the scoring with a 50.
Eighth-grader Catey Logsdon keeps showing improvement and hope for the future for the Lady Cougars, leading the way Thursday with a score of 50. Freshman Brianne Schultz fired a 52, junior Katherine Campbell had a 54 and freshman Brooke Bratcher had a 55 to complete the scoring rounds. Sophomore Tessa McDavid had a non-scoring round of 60 for the Lady Cougars.
Both varsity squads will be in action this weekend. The Cougar varsity will travel to Bullitt County’s Glenmary Course to take part in the Bullitt East Invitational. The Lady Cougars will be at Bowling Green’s Riverview Course to participate in the Warren Central Invitational.
