The City of Caneyville will be looking for a new clerk.

The commission announced at the meeting on Monday, August 11, that City Clerk Brenda Brown had resigned her position. That position is temporarily being filled by Betty Woosley.

The city will not fill the position until after the first of the year.

Brown had served as clerk for more than 20 years and asked the commission to keep the announcement of her July resignation as quiet as possible.

In other business, Caneyville residents will see a four percent increase in property and tangible taxes.

The proposed rate will be raised to 20.4 cents from 19.7 cents per $100 assessed value for real estate property and 22.3 cents from 21.48 cents per $100 assessed value for personal property.

The tax hike will be adopted after the second reading on September 8.

The Public Service Commission recommended the Grayson County Water District raise its water rates seven percent. This will raise the water rates from $1.81 per 1000 gallons to $1.94 per 1000 gallons for the City of Caneyville.

“This is a pretty modest increase that will likely be passed on to our customers,” Caneyville Mayor James Paul Embry.

The Grayson County Water District requested a 42 acres easement to be used to give residents outside the city’s water district access to county water.

The commission was unable to grant the easement because there was no legal description on the request. The decision was tabled until a legal description can be obtained.

The commission agreed the new roof on the firehouse will be black.
