Agriculture Board Secretary Nancy Cain said both the Meade County Agriculture Show and the Bowling Green Expo was this past weekend.
The Meade County show is usually held on Wednesday but was changed to Saturday this year, and the Bowling Green Expo is usually the fourth weekend in July.
Cain said all three events just happen to be going on at the same time.
Gas prices have also had a huge impact on festivals this year.
“I would say that has a big thing to do with lower attendance,” added Cain. “Then yesterday’s shows (Meade County and Bowling Green Expo) a lot of people went to that. When they get here a lot of the time your livestock are tired.”
Cain explained that attendance was down for the cattle show, but attendance for both horse shows was about normal.
“The entries were about the same as last year,” said Cain. “Luckily it did not rain, and the weather has not been that bad. Overall it was a pretty good event considering gas prices.”
Cain’s most memorable moment from this year’s fair was when Chad Renfrow, who used to be involved with 4-H, brought his four kids and they showed animals.
“Mackenzie did great,” explained Cain. “She had a little heifer, and that thing would butt her and she did not give an inch. Any other child would have given up right there, but not her.”
Cain wants to thank everyone for their donations and also for volunteering their time to put on yet another successful year.
