A Caneyville couple found an unexpected treasure during an afternoon of mushroom hunting.
Alisa and Dale Sermon were searching for mushrooms when she came across a turtle shell that appears to have the image of Jesus Christ etched in the shell.
“We were just out hunting for mushrooms and he was about 300 yards ahead of me,” said Sermon. "I was just standing by a tree and I noticed this white thing that was not a tree root.”
The couple had been searching around Water Shed Lake in Caneyville when she picked up what appeared to be an old turtle shell.
“I realized it was part of a turtle shell and I did not want to go home empty handed so I dug it out of the ground, took it home and washed it off,” added Sermon.
After cleaning the shell Sermon said she noticed it looked like a picture of the Virgin Mary on the outer part of the shell.
“I began to pick at the the piece of shell over the bone and was surprised when the shell came off and I saw the image of Jesus,” said Sermon.
“I have shown other people and they see it too,” added Sermon. “I have never seen anything like this.”
When asked if the item was for sale she said, “Everything is for sale for the right price.”
