Caneyville to join quilt trail

The Caneyville City Commission agreed to participate in the Kentucky Tourism Commission’s Clothesline of Quilts project during its Monday night meeting.

The program is a a tri-state effort among Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee seeking to draw tourists off the interstates and into rural area to experience the region’s unique culture, according to Brenda Brown, city clerk.

Participants in the program decorate the side of a building with a quilt pattern. This quilt pattern will make Caneyville one of many stops in the sate where these will be displayed.

The pattern will consist of the an eight-by-eight quilt that will display the Purple Freddie Flash and a heart. This design represents the mascot of the former Caneyville High School.

The design will be located on the side of the Caneyville Firehouse.

In other business, the City of Caneyville will receive some financial assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency concerning the recent storm damage.

Caneyville resident Stephanie Render requested assistance from the commission concerning the rat and snake infested building attached to their business on Main Street.

The commission agreed to look at the ordinance and find out who owns the property and what could be done to assist with the problem.

Meanwhile, the commission discussed installing a security system with cameras at the new city hall building. It was agreed the commission would obtain several quotes and discuss the issue next meeting.

The commission agreed to look at several items to improve the Community Park. The walking track has mud caked on it and basketball and tennis tracks are in need of repair.

The commission discussed putting the City of Caneyville on the brick of the new city hall building and Caneyville CIty Hall as well as the times on the door of the building. It was agreed the commission would have several companies draw up a design and submit prices for the next meeting.
