Leitchfield Police Detective Gary Troutman said Jeremy J. Coon, 30, of Horse Branch is being charged with shoplifting and robbery second degree.
According to Troutman, officers were dispatched to Save-A-Lot on South English Street on April 9, and met with employees who had apprehended Coon.
After Coon was searched, officers discovered meat and several other items he had stolen.
A Save-A-Lot employee who noticed Coon leaving the store with stolen items caught him.
LPD officer Ernie Steff arrested Coon on April 9 for shoplifting, but after a follow up investigation Coon was also charged with robbery.
“Coon resisted arrest and threatened an employee,” said Troutman. “People need to be aware that shoplifting can be charged with robbery, which is a class C felony, and an individual could receive five to 10 years for that charge.”
Coon, who was arraigned on April 10, is being held in the Grayson County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond for robbery second degree and a $2,500 bond for shoplifting. His next court date is scheduled for April 17.
