Jack was born February 11, 1919 in Grayson County, the son of Columbus Lee and Hanna Belle Hackley Powell.
He was a member of Rock Creek Methodist Church, served in U.S. Army WWII, retired from Metropolitan Insurance Company after 22 years. He was also a member of VFW #7119, FOP, Order to the Eagles, Masonic Lodge, F & AM #251, and Sahara Grotta.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred N. White Powell; one brother, Randolph Powell; a half-brother, Owen Powell; and half-sister, Josie Powell.
He is survived by long time companion, Mary Joan (Jo) Saters and family; daughters, Dawn M. Wilkin and Denise L. Acton; son, David E. Saters; sister, Ora Thomas Powell Smith (Winford) of Munfordville, Ky.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; nieces, Mattie Belle Hughes (JC) of Bowling Green, Ky., Freda Regan (Bill) of Clarkson, Ky., Nadine Vincent (Ben) of Edmonson County, Ky.; nephews, W.T. Smith (Judy), Marion H. Smith (Linda), Calvin “Ricky” Smith (Loretta), Peter J. (Barbara) Putnam, and David Wiseman (Susan).
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15 at Hendryx Mortuary, New Palestine Chapel.
Burial will be in the Washington Park East Cemetery.
