Over 600 children will find Christmas morning just a little brighter because of the generosity of the citizens of Grayson County.
Each year the Grayson County Christmas Program collects names of needy children and looks to the community to help out these youngsters.
“Grayson County takes care of its own and people are very generous when it comes to the kids,” said Angie Jones, one of the volunteers that helps make the program a success each year.
Applications for the needy children helped by the program are taken between October and November and screened carefully. The name of every child that is found eligible is then put on a master list.
Some of the names come from area teachers and Family Resource Directors and others are received from parents, grandparents and concerned friends.
After reviewing the list of names, the volunteers with the programs paired up the names with the community partners that help to supply the gifts for the children.
Different companies, social clubs and churches as well as individuals thoughout the county will receive ages and sizes of the children and anything from clothing, to toys, to school supplies are purchased and given to the young children.
On December 13, the gifts were picked up by the parents or guardians and placed under a tree for the children to be opened up on Christmas morning.
Each child received a brand-new, battery-operated toothbrush and many will find new winter coats and gloves as well as games and clothing.
“We are thankful to the many people who shopped for the kids and help make the Grayson County Christmas PRogram a success,” said Tracy Dennison, coordinator of the program.
