A McDaniels man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after hitting a utility pole in a one-car accident on Monday afternoon.
According to a Leitchfield City Police report, Charles G. Metcalfe, 32, of 1975 S. HWY 259, McDaniels, was driving south on HWY 62 when crossed over the center line and lost control of his automobile.
Metcalfe reported a car pulled out in front of him causing him to lose control of his1983 Datsun. He then crossed over the median and left the roadway on the left hand side of the road.
“The Datsun then hit a utility pole, breaking the pole in two,” reported Leitchfield City Police Office Ernie Steff. “Just the pole broke no lines so no one was without service.”
Steff added, while being questioned by the Grayson County Emergency Medical personnel and the city police, Metcalfe finished eating a honey bun.
He remained in the vehicle until he finished eating.
When Metcalfe finished his honey bun Officer Braxton Allen conducted a field sobriety test. He failed the test and was arrested and charged with DUI.
Metcalfe refused to be transported by ambulance. Steff transported him to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment before transporting him to the Grayson County Detention Center.
