The middle school girls basketball teams closed out their regular season schedule by splitting a pair of games at home Thursday night against Butler County.

In the opener, the seventh-grade girls could manage just seven points in the game as the Lady Bears improved to 15-4 on the season with a 23=7 win. Grayson County fell to 4-16 with the loss.

The tables were turned in the eighth-grade game as the lady Cougars ran away with a 37-11 win. The Lady Cougars improved to 18-5 while the Lady Bears fell to 5-19.

SEVENTH-GRADE GAME

The seventh-grade girls have had a long season as they just have not found the ability to hold onto the ball and put it in the basket with any consistency.

In the first half alone, the Lady Cougars had 24 possessions and turned the ball over 15 times. They did not score a single basket and trailed 14-4 on 4-of-9 shooting from the free throw line.

Grayson County had just one basket in the entire game, that coming at the 3:55 mark of the fourth quarter on a Kailea Gill 15-footer.

Butler County's Madeline Drake got the benefit of some great passing from point guard Lynsie Clark as she scored 13 points to lead all scorers.

Gill led the Lady Cougars with five points. Breanna Fulkerson and Maddy Guepet had one each to complete the scoring.

EIGHTH-GRADE GAME

There was never much doubt in this game after the Lady Cougars scored the first 18 points. Kylee Gorby's three-pointer at the 3:06 mark of the second quarter ended the 18-0 run. They led 21-4 at the half.

Grayson County then held the Lady Bears scoreless once more in the third quarter and led 31-4 heading into the fourth quarter.

Butler County's raven Brooks got hot in the fourth quarter, scoring seven straight points, including a three-pointer with 55 seconds left, to take her team into double figures.

Gorby led all scorers with 15 points and added three rebounds and two assists. Jordan Decker continued the inspired play she has displayed at the end of the year, just missing a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.

Lauren Crawford scored six points and added two boards and three steals.

Claire Crawford, Jamilyn Hall and Alisha Vincent scored two points each and Brianne Schultz had one to complete the Lady Cougar scoring.

katie Newton did not score, but did a fine job filling in for the ailing Halee Johnston by grabbing three rebounds and three steals.
