The recent announcement of the Leitchfield Plastics Plant closure has the Leitchfield-Grayson County Industrial Development Corporation, INC looking for ways to bring new businesses to Grayson County.

A specially-called meeting of the Industrial Corporation centered around the recent announcement of the plant closure. Board Chairman David Bennett released a statement.

The Board expressed deep regret regarding the news, but stated that several upcoming strategic initiatives should help pave the way for renewed vigor within the county's economic development environment.

“We will be meeting with city and county officials in the coming weeks to help create a better way to recruit new industry, as well as to put in place methods which will possibly help to see that we do not experience a closure of this impact in the future,” said Bennett. “We could only hope that most of the people who will be losing their jobs can be absorbed continued from page 1

through some of our existing industry or through newly recruited industry.”

Leitchfield Mayor William H. Thomason added his concern for the employees of Leitchfield Plastics who will lose their job but was optimistic about the future economy of the city.

“We cannot say much about what we are up to,” said Leitchfield Mayor William H. Thomason. “There is so much competition out there with other counties that we have to get the deal signed before we make any real announcements.”

The County Judge Executive, Gary Logsdon also added his concerns for the employees who will be without employment when the plant closes but stressed that it was going to take team work to bring new business to the county.

“The lines of communication need to be opened and strengthened between the industrial foundation, the community, and all elected officials, “ said Logsdon. “It's going to take us all to show industries that Grayson County is a great place to do business.

Logsdon concluded his statement with concern for the 260 employees of Leitchfield Plastics losing their jobs. “My sympathy and concern goes out to those losing their jobs,” added Logsdon.

The Leitchfield-Grayson County Industrial Development Corporation, INC is a nonprofit organization with the mission of recruiting new business and maintaining existing business in the Grayson County Area.
