The annual Christmas Parade will “Unwrap the Magic of Christmas” this year on December 1, when it travels down Main Street in Leitchfield.
With over 24 entries already registered for the Christmas Parade, the morning promises to be a fun-filled day full of magical moments for young and old.
The theme of this years is parade is “Unwrap the Magic of Christmas” and entries can use the theme or use imagination.
“It is always fun to see how the groups come up with ideas to show what Christmas means to them,” said Executive Director of the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce, Caryn Lewis.
Lineup for the parade begins at 9 a.m. at the Grayson County Fair Grounds and will begin to run through the streets of Leitchfield to South Gate Mall at 10 a.m.
There are many events around the county to celebrate the holiday in addition to the parade.
Residents can view the wonder of the season at Rough RIver State Resort Park through out the the month of December with “Christmas in the Park”. There will be several spectacular lighted displays throughout the park and camp grounds, provided by local companies and groups.
The official lighting ceremony will be on Thursday, November 29 at 6 p.m. The kickoff will include a park-wide lighting of trees and displays. Santa will visit for the children and there will be music and refreshments.
Caneyville's Tree Lighting Ceremony will be on Friday, December 30 at 6 p.m. The Caneyville community will come together to begin the celebration of the holiday season with a brief devotional and special music by the Caneyville Elementary School Chorus. Santa will arrive in the town on a fire truck to give the children the opportunity share their wishes with him. There will be refreshments and treat bags provided by the City of Caneyville.
There will be several events taking place on Saturday after the Leitchfield parade. Some of those events will be:
The Grayson County 4H and Grayson County Diabetes Coalition will cosponsor a 5K Run. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning and the race is at 8 a.m.
There will be two nonprofit yard sales. An Uptown Yard Sale will be sponsored by Grayson County Historic Society and held inside the Jack Thomas House.Leitchfield Deposit Bank will hold a Relay For Life yard sale from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. all proceeds will go to the Relay For Life.
The Christmas Craft Show, sponsored by the Grayson County Jaycees, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Centre on the main.
Grayson County PublicLibrary will have fun activities from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and Santa will be there to listen to the children's wish list and have his picture taken.
At 6 p.m. Christmas in Clarkson will begin at City Hall as the Clarkson community begins the holiday season with a tree lighting ceremony. Santa will be there for the children and music will be provided by local churches. Refreshments will be served.
