Although employees will receive unemployment benefits, the Lincoln Trail Development District is teaming up with local agencies to provide training and job prospects for the 260 workers that will lose their jobs.
Jones Plastics & Engineering, Co., LLC, the owner of Leitchfield Plastics, announced in a statement Friday that their Grayson County facility will close sometime in January, 2008.
In order to assist these workers that will lose their jobs, Lincoln Trail's Rapid Response Team will be scheduling a series of meeting with the employees of the plant to explain the benefits and how to access things like KCHIP, insurance for children through the state.
The Workforce Investment Act provides dislocated workers help getting back in the workforce.
Those who have skills that make it difficult for the worker to find a job will be offered job training that will be available for up to two years.
Grayson County Adult Education and the Health Department will also be available to assist the workers.
The Office of Employment and Training will help these workers find a job and access unemployment benefits.
“Our main concern right now,” said Jackie Masterson, a member of the Lincoln Trail Rapid Response Team, “ is helping these workers learn about the local programs and easing some of the stress and fears about what to do next.
We are here to help them figure out where to go next and how to access the programs that are available.”
