The Anneta Fire Department board of directors says their coverage area comes within two miles of Wax fire station one and board members want to revert back to the district initially established in 1986.
Wax also has a fire substation on Highway 889. And if Anneta gets the reversion, that location will now be encompassed in Anneta's district.
Wax Assistant Fire Chief Gary Garrison will however argue that comment.
“Since 1994 we have been covering 112 square miles,” explained Garrison. “The way it is going now our area will be cut down to less than half.”
The new change would have Anneta covering about 180 square miles.
It would be all of Highway 88, Nolin Estates and Dug Hill Road. Highway 1214 and 1356 is classified as part of Anneta's district also.
Initially the Anneta VFD only went up to Wilbur Higdon Road. Anneta has only one firehouse to cover homes 12-15 miles away.
This means residents would be taxed who thought they were initially in Wax's district.
Anneta's argument is the lines were drawn out 21 years ago.
But Chief Garrison has different thoughts.
“In 1994 the fire chiefs met to define 911 territories,” replied Garrison. “That is when the 889 substation was built. It was there to service the Wax coverage area.”
He said the fire department has been covering the location since then. Clarkson and Leitchfield also took portions of the district from Anneta.
Garrison explained the Wax board president is waiting on a call from Anneta's board.
Once this occurs a meeting time and date will be scheduled. At that time the matter will be discussed in further detail.
The above dispute originated from a recent mandatory tax ruling for Anneta. During that time the district perimeters were not defined.
