The Grayson County fair grounds will be a “Safe Spot” for Trick-or-Treaters on Halloween night.

For the seventh year in a row the fair grounds will be decorated and there will be plenty of treats for the young participants.

Grayson County Community Education is sponsoring the Halloween event that will be free to the public from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

“A kid can come through with an empty bag and leave with a full one,” said Community Education Director Angie Jones.

With at least 22 businesses and local organizations participating in the event there will be lots of Trick-or-Treating stations for each child to visit.

In addition to the collection of the candy there will be an obstacle course and a haunted mini-bus to add to the fun.

The event began to take form with one couple. Angie and Keith Jones were waiting for the trick-or-treaters to come to their doorsteps nine years ago and became concerned with the safety of the youngsters.

Two years later the fair grounds were set up as a safe place for the kids. The event began with the Twin Lake Cruisers Car Club.

Different antique car owners brought their cars to the fairgrounds on Halloween night and handed out candy as the the autos were displayed.

The response was overwhelming with over 1,200 participants coming out for the event.

Eventually the Community Education became the sponsors. Over 3,000 youngsters and more than 20 businesses and organizations participated last year.

With the only cost to participate is the cost of the candy many businesses return year after year for the fun.

This is a great way to advertise your business and the only cost is the candy,” said Angie Jone.

There is room for more businesses to set up a booth. For more information contact Angie Jones at 270-259-4925 or 270-589-9030.
