A series of burglaries around Grayson County has the local police agencies asking for help.
After Clarkson Elementary school was burglarized on Monday morning and Curves early Tuesday, Hobdy Dye and Read, on Wednesday, and then the Grayson County Transfer Center and Logsdon Quick Stop on Thursday, authorities are looking for any lead available.
With the Clarkson and Leitchfield police departments and the Grayson County Sheriff's Department all working open cases of burglaries this week there is a question as to whether the cases are related and the same person or persons are responsible for the crimes.
As reported in the October 4 edition of the Grayson County News-Gazette, Clarkson ELementary School was the first building to be burglarized. The thieves entered the building through a window in the back, rumaged through the school and ended up with between $20 and $50 for their trouble.
And then Curves, at 205 Brandenburg Road, was broken into sometime Tuesday in the early hours. According to Leitchfield Police Detective Jarrod Mudd the perpetrator peeled away some metal siding and cut a hole in the dry wall to gain entryinto the building. The suspect appeared to be looking for cash, added Mudd, but nothing was stolen.
Wednesday around 2 p.m. Hobdy Dye and Read, at 2653 Elizabethtown Road, reported a piece of farm equipment missing. They were unsure when the piece of equipment was stolen, reported Mudd. The equipment was valued at around $5,000, added Mudd. There was no forced entry.
The Leitchfield Solid Waste and Transfer Station at 510 South English Street was the next company to fall victim to the thefts. The suspects entered through a broken window in the back of the building. They seemed to be looking for cash because of the damage that was done and the places they looked, reported Mudd. But nothing was taken.
The sheriff's department was notified when an alarm went off around 2 a.m. at Logsdon Quick Stop in Carkson on Thursday morning. The suspect was caught on video after he entered the store around 2 a.m. through a broken window in the back of the store.
He was in and out of the store in 23 seconds and seemed to know what he was looking, reported sheriff's Detective Terry Blanton. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the store.
If you have any information that you feel could be linked to any of these burglaries, you can report it anonymously by calling the Leitchfield Police Department at 259-3850 or the Grayson County Sheriff's Department at 259-3024.
