The Cougar golf teams tuned up for next week's regional tournaments by hosting Edmonson County and picking up wins at the Legacy Golf Course on Thursday.

The Cougar boys beat the Wildcats 164-175 and finished the season at 14-1. Sophomore Brad Alexander led the way with a round of 38, while senior Blake Collins shot a 40. Sophomores T. J. Wood and Grant Collins both shot 43.

Edmonson County's only lady golfer did not show, so the Lady Cougars finished their regular season with an 11-2 record.

The Lady Cougars will travel to the Glen Mary Golf Club, in Louisville, on Monday, September 24 for the Region 3 tournament. The five representatives will be senior Devon Dunn, junior Tessa Nelson, freshman Paige Higdon, and eighth-graders Brianne Schultz and Brooke Bratcher.

The boys will play on Tuesday, September 25 at Kenny Perry's Country Creek, in Franklin, and will be represented by Blake and Grant Collins, Alexander, Wood and freshman Kyle Blessitt.

Assistant coach Mike Meredith said Dunn and Blake Collins, the only seniors on both teams, will be playing their last matches for Grayson County and both players have high hopes of qualifying as individuals if their teams do not qualify.

“Although an actual golf poll isn't produced every week, both squads are certainly in the upper half in the region,” Meredith said. “With a good day at the regionals, both squads could qualify for state competition.”
