Golfers undefeated to start season

Cougar golfers continued to play well at the start of the season with both the boys and girls winning a pair of matches last week to move to perfect 3-0 records.

Playing at Shady Hills on Monday, the boys defeated Warren Central 162-190, while the girls won 202-264. The boys also won a JV match 184-215.

On Tuesday, playing Warren East at Leitchfield's Legacy Golf Club, the boys won 155-164, while the girls won 193-234.

Brad Alexander led the way for the boys on Monday, firing a 37 against Warren Central. Blake Collins and T. J. Wood both shot 41, while Kyle Blessitt had a 43.

Paige Higdon paced the Lady Cougars with a 44. Junior Tessa Nelson shot a 50, senior Devon Dunn shot 55, and 8th-grader Brooke Bratcher shot 57.

In the JV match, sophomore Brett Stone was low-man for the Cougars with a 43. Junior Ethan Johnson shot 46, sophomore Steven Jones shot 47, and 8th-grader Seth Beatty had a 48.

Tuesday, Alexander shot a three-under 33 for nine holes to lead his team to victory. Wood shot 39, Blessitt had a 40, while both Collins and his younger brother Grant shot identical scores of 43.

Higdon again led the way for the Lady Cougars against Warren East, this time shooting 43. Dunn knocked 11 strokes off her score of the previous day with a 44.

Bratcher shot 52, while 8th-grader Brianne Schultz and sophomore Katherine Campbell tied one another with 54.

On Tuesday, August 21, the Cougars will host Elizabethtown and Central Hardin at The Legacy.
