Going through my daughter's toy chest I found fourteen items on the list of Mattel toys.
The way I understand it they are suspect for excessive lead content.
Mattel advises any child to seek medical attention if they have placed any of the toys in their mouth.
Some of the most popular goods on the market were on that list.
As it turns out several Dora, Diego and Elmo products have been recalled.
I feel bad taking my kid's toys away. Then again I can't really take the chance of her getting sick either.
The way I understand it the products were all manufactured after May 1 2007.
That's great but how do they guarantee the items prior to that date. Has Mattel physically traveled to China and ran tests on products manufactured prior to the May 1 date?
Talk about a complicated process returning the products. You have to go to Mattel's website.
An individual then goes through a series of steps to determine if the product has been affected.
After that review the recall announcement, view and print the recall brochure, and then fill out the help me application.
Mattel will proceed to send you an email with several documents attached.
Those will need to be printed out and completed then mailed to Mattel.
The toys will be mailed to the company. In return Mattel will send you a voucher for the affected toys.
The catch is that if you have more than six affected items.
You have to go through same process all over again for the remaining count of products.
It also looks like by the way the recalling is going. Mattel's website among other toy manufacturers need to be checked on a weekly basis.
Polly Pockets, Batman, and Barbie products are the next thing to be recalled thus far.
Small magnets enclosed in these products are falling out. A report showed that a three year old boy was caught with one in his mouth.
Twenty-one other cases have been reported at this time. No injuries luckily have occured due to the malfunctions.
The company has not narrowed down a manufactured timeline as of yet.
All items like the ones mentioned above need to be sent to Mattel as well.
So it looks like if someone has a small child be prepared to fill out a lot of paperwork.
Also if they are like my little one, she has been asking several questions on why all her toys keep dwindling away.
How do you explain to a small child that she could get sick from just playing with her toys? That doesn't even make sense to me.
A company in China is where the products are being manufactured.
I know it is cheaper to produce items overseas for sake of higher profit margin.
But is it really a good idea to risk the safety of our children to increase your numbers?
The toys produced now seem to be made so much cheaper also. What kind of person had the bright idea to create Bratz dolls with detachable feet?
As far as I know you cannot buy a variety of different types of feet to change out at the local Walmart.
Luckily my child is old enough to know better than to place them in her mouth and chew on them. What if I had a younger child or even a baby and thought the feet was a chew toy.
I know all manufacturers make mistakes but what happened to trial and error. Aren't these items tested before going in production?
I cannot imagine a market research group looking at the Bratz dolls and saying that is a great idea to create a doll with detachable feet.
Risks are involved with anything you buy. I try to be as careful as I can when purchasing gifts for my child and their friends.
It just doesn't make my job any easier when items keep getting created with excessive lead content items or magnets falling off everytime you turn around. I pray these problems will be remedied soon.
