There was more than fishing going on at Nolin Lake this past weekend where the second annual Rex Hurt Memorial Nolin Fest was held.
Moutardier Resort and Marina hosted a bevy of events on Friday, August 3rd, and Saturday, August 4th, with the Nolin Fest in full swing.
Elvis even joined in the festivities on Friday evening singing and entertaining the participants. There was a campsite decoration at Briar Creek with a Hawaiian Luau.
Vendors were there selling homemade crafts and wares.
With beach games and a scavenger hunt scheduled there were plenty of games and activities for the kids.
Saturday morning the banks of the lake were busy with anglers young and old during the “Fish off the Bank Contest” hosted by the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Department.
Even the bait was provided. No one had to bring a pole hook line or sinker because Fish and Wildlife provided it all. Officials would even bait the hook for you if needed.
The festival committee was pleased with the turnout despite the hot weather and will bring the event back next year hoping it will grow to double the people attending.
“The camp grounds at Moutarier were booked months in advance,” said Paula Vincent, festival chairman.
There was a beauty contest with a Miss Nolin Fest being crowned and a boat parade in the afternoon.
The festival ended with a fireworks display at dark on Saturday night.
All the proceeds will go back to the festival to make next year's Nolin Fest bigger and better.
A portion of the money raised was donated to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer society.
The goal of festival representatives is to donate the proceeds to the American Cancer Society starting next year in honor of the festival name sake Rex Hurt.
