With the school year starting the regional manager of the vision center, Bob Meyer, felt it was the perfect time to bring the community together and educate parents and children on health and safety issues.
Walmart Vision Center Manager Jennifer Embry contacted several local community organizations and offered the opportunity for these groups to give the citizens of Grayson County and a chance to hand out the educational material.
Embry was impressed with the response she had from the community.
“They are the most open, communicative people I have met,” said Embry. "I could not ask for more from these people. These people care about kids and people. Everyone in the community helps each other out.
“I just gave them the space and they took advantage of the opportunity,” added Embry.
Grayson County Sheriff's department conducted finger printing for children.
Leitchfield Pediatric Clinic gave out books, magazines, and brochures relating to children's health.
Walmart Vision Center distributed brochures on sports vision protection and 10 warning signs of children's vision difficulties, family related vision risks. They handed out gift bags.
Roni Mudd, from the Grayson County Health Department, gave out children's health and safety information.
Eriksen Chiropractic Center did spinal checks and handed information on children chiropractic information.
Leitchfield Fire Department had health and safety brochures and the EMS department gave away helium balloons, candy and plenty of good information for the children.
The Vision Center has already received overwhelming response for the next Health Fair and hopes this will be an annual event.
