After going to back to LaVita this last time I was left with some serious thoughts.

Here was something that a group of people spent 13 years building and in a matter of months it was gone.

How quickly life changes and things that we spend our entire life building can disappear.

Then we must make the decision to rebuild or move on and do something different.

Then what is left behind?

When we die what is really left behind?

Do all the material things we gather and collect here really mean a whole lot or are they just things left to someone else?

How do we leave this world a better place? Change the life of just one person for the better?

Most of us will leave family behind that will morn and say good things about us for a time.

A few will be remembered in the history books because they were mayor of the town or president or could play baseball or sing well.

But what will we actually be remembered for?

How many people will look back on our life and say, “Wow, that was really a good person and I hope someday I will be just like him?”

A friend of mine told me something this week that was pretty profound.

Her son is in a position where he rubs elbows, well actually works for, some pretty rich people.

But he said they have no real friends.

They have every thing money can buy and can do anything they want to do. But they have no real friends.

She told her son how rich he was because of the friends he had and named a few who he can really count on.

But more importantly they can count on him.

There is a character and I use the name in a very loving way because in the last several months he has become very dear to my heart.

But if you say his name everyone in town know this guy.

He does not have a lot of material things, actually I think he still lives with his mother.

God did not bless him with an IQ that would earn him a nice income so he works hard for what he has.

You could never call this guy lazy.

And he would do anything for you.

One day I was at work and I was going in a million different directions and one of my daughters called from school. She needed medicine for a headache.

I had the medicine but needed to get it to her and he pulled up at the news paper.

I asked him if he was busy and he named a couple of things he had to do and then asked why.

When I told him that my daughter needed medicine, suddenly everything he had just named off became secondary to my daughters needs.

He did not even know my daughter, he just knew she had a need.

He took the medicine to the school and her headache got better.

What touched me more than anything was weeks later he pointed at her and asked if she was the one he took the medicine to.

I paused and thought about what he did for me that day and why he did it.

He did it because he could help. It was a small thing that took less than an hour out his day but it has touched me in a way that I will forever be grateful to him.

Some people laugh at this guy and he can be quite the character.

But if you ask me there is not a finer man in Grayson County.

To have him for a friend is to have a treasure.

He will not leave behind a huge house or a famous name but in his own way

he has made the world a little better and touched one or two lives for the

better.

That can not be torn down or destroyed after this man is gone.
