The Caneyville City Commission voted to build a new baseball field on the industrial park site at the meeting Monday July 9th.

It was agreed that the four to five acres owned by the city of Caneyville on Sunset Boulevard would be used to build a much needed T-ball and Little League Field.

The ball field currently used floods and is unusable most of the time, but it is very sentimental for many Caneyville residents.

“We all played there,” said Caneyville Mayor James Paul Embry. “We all have memories there, our kids played there. But we needed to do something.”

The commission also agreed to begin accepting bids on the manhole repair project with Avery Fleener to inspect the manholes as they are repaired.

Twenty-eight manholes were identified as needing repaired.

Plans for the new City Hall were reviewed and discussed. The new city hall will be built on HWY 62 just before the firehouse entering the city.

The estimated $100,000 used to build the city hall will come from the infrastructure grant the city received.

The Commission agreed to continue to look for a new police car as the 2007-08 budget allowed for the purchase of one.

Caneyville City Commission will have an estimated surplus of $235,000 in the 2006-07 fiscal year to be used in the year 2007-08.

With an estimated $659,000 for the 2007-08 year and expenditures expected to be around $486,000. the city excepts to have a surplus at the end of next year as well.
