For the month of July, First Baptist Church in Leitchfield is honoring veterans. A wall of honor is set up outside of the church.
The way the wall works is simple. Any veteran past or present can drop by and sign a spot. A family member of a lost loved can also go by to sign.
They need to list their armed force division, war they served in, and year. Anyone from around the community or country can be listed on the wall.
Pastor Tim Menser this is the church's way of saying thanks. Members of the church want to pray for these folks and bring attention to a cause.
“People in the community need to pray for the safety and peace of these soldiers,” said Menser. He also is doing a different teaching series each Sunday on the topic.
“The Bible teaches us as Christians about honor and sacrifice,” explained Menser. “In one of the sessions we use medal symbolism in religion for example the medal of honor, purple heart, etc.”
The idea for the wall of honor came from brainstorming meetings with the First Baptist staff. Menser said he wants the community to come out on Sunday July 22 to honor the veterans and service personnel listed on the wall.
This will be a free meal for all veterans and their immediate families in the Grayson County area.
