Summer day camp set for Grayson area youth

A group of local service groups are teaming up to provide a week-long summer day camp for Grayson County youngsters.

Grayson County 4-H Youth Development, Leitchfield Family Resource Youth Center and the Salvation Army are sponsoring a camp to take place the week of Celebrate America Week, Monday, July 2 through Friday, July 6th.

The camp will meet daily at the Leitchfield Family Resource Youth Center next to Wilkey Elementary School.

The hours are from 11:30 until 3:30 pm.

Area youth between the ages of seven and 14 are encouraged to sign up. There is no fee to attend the camp.

Space is limited to 75 children and it is a first-come, first-serve bases.

WIth the theme being Celebrate America Week the groups are hoping to encouraging any child with a relative in the military to attend the camp.

This week-long schedule of activities includes visits to the local pool on Tuesday and Thursday and a visit to the Patton Museum and the Water Park at Fort Knox on Monday.

The camp will end on Friday with a day camp celebration of games and awards and lunch.

To register a child contact Community Action at 259-3500 no later than noon on Thursday, June 28th.

Other community partners that are contributing to the summer camp are Grayson County Extension Office, The Salvation Army, Community Action., Family Literacy, American Legion and The National Guard.

Tracy Dennison of Community Action is looking forward to spending the week with the area youth.

“This is an opportunity to serve the children of Grayson County and give them a safe,fun activity, during the Fourth of July week to celebrate America,' said Dennison.
