Although, I am very honored with the job, once again I can not believe there
are enough people out there who really want to hear what I have to say to
warrant my own column.
But I love to write and given the opportunity to tell people how I feel is something I never turn down.
So I thought I would give it a try.
I have spent a whole week trying to figure out what to write about, lots of
things have come to mind but the one thing that keeps coming back over and over
is how much I love my job.
Please don't tell my publisher because I want him to think I like it ok, but
when you let you let your boss know you love your job as much as I love mine
then they have the upper hand and raises don't happen as much.
I never in a million years dreamed I would write for a newspaper. I kind of
just lucked into this job when I applied for the composing job at the News-
Gazette.
Royce followed me outside and mentioned that this position would be available.
I thought it would be neat to write and it has turned out to be the best
job I have ever had.
I have had adventures that I never dreamed I would have. Some of you have read
about those adventures and experiences and some have never been written
about.
Sunday I went to a corn-hole tournament. It was something to watch the
contestants throw the bags of corn at the holes and try to win the money.
The game was similar to horse shoes, with the rules being the same but they were
throwing bags of corn instead of horse shoes.
What was more fun than the tournament was the way I got there. I rode on the
back of a motorcycle. That is the first time I ever rode on a motorcycle that
far. It was actually fun.
Next I would like to go for a long ride on horseback because that is an adventure I have not yet experienced. So anybody out there that has a horse I can ride call me at the News-Gazette. I will wirte all about that adventure too.
I have ridden on a helicopter with LifeNet. I spent three days hanging out with the guys there and we mostly sat around and talked about the different runs they have been on and waited and waited for a call to come in. It never came.
After the third day, the pilot broke down and took me for a maintenance run. I was both glad and disappointed that I did not get to go on a medical run.
I was happy no one needed to be transported by helicopter but a little disappointed I did not get to see the guys in action.
That will always be my favorite story because that was my very first front page. That page hangs on the wall behind my desk.
My ride with the sheriff deputy turned out to be every thing I expected it to be and then some. I will never forget driving on the WK with lights and sirens.
On Saturday night I will riding with the Leitchfield City Police and will compare the rides.
I have spoken to famous people and shaken hands with people like the Governor and the Attorney General.
I have been exposed to all kinds of different people that I would never have met and written stories about different people.
People have sent me books and asked me to read them and write reviews on them.
I have covered many different kinds of stories and written about many different
things and every day is different. But the best part about this job is I get to
write and people read what I write.
So, if you can think of a different adventure for me or of a story that might
be fun to read about call me 270-259-5622 or e-mail at me here at the News-Gazette tdunn@gcnewsgazette.com.
Those are my favorite stories, the ones that come from you guys.
And thanks G. C. News-Gazette readers for reading what I write.
