The Clarkson City Council has promoted Jeff King to chief of the city's police force.

All members of the council as well as the mayor were present for the meeting. Executive session was called to discuss personnel and litigation. It was from that session Jeff King, patrolman for Clarkson, was promoted to Chief of Police.

King will receive an extra .50 cents on the hour and will be re-evaluated on his progress by the council members after three months.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Scotty Gore called to attention the need for improvements to be made to local roads in the city.

Mayor Bonnie Henderson designated Gore and Tom Livergood, another city commissioner to oversee the project. Both men will survey the roads and sidewalks on Wednesday, May 16th to determine which need improvements.

The group will then compile a priority list starting with the areas needing the most help first. Bids will be accepted at the next meeting for improvements needed. Henderson said a meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, May 15th at 2:00 with Josh Hornback and Patty Dunaway from the road department.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss Highway 62 being widened to three lanes and discuss concerns as far as congestion for the highway. A street light was approved to be placed at the corner of Lee Lane and Highway 62.

Flags are going to be hung in the city as well as ribbons in honor of Memorial Day weekend. Alicia Hayes, clerk/treasurer, emphasized the need for a four wheeler or utility vehicle to be purchased for the Clarkson City Park.

Hayes went on to say, "The money will come out of the park fund. The park really needs something to drag the fields with. They are in dire need of repair."

It was approved by the council members to look at purchasing a utility vehicle of some type. Henderson also wanted to mention the city has a 1976 John Deere tractor for sale.

It will be auctioned off at the next meeting which will be held on May 29th. Council members approved the bills for April 2007 and approved the 1st reading of the Codes of Ordinances for 2007-01.
