The Cougar tennis teams have been very busy recently, with four matches last week and over the weekend.

Last Tuesday the Cougar netters hosted the Trojans of North Hardin and both teams came away with victories. The Girls won their match by a 9-0 score while the boys won 8-1. On Thursday, Grayson County traveled to Ohio County and split two matches. The girls again shut out their opponents 9-0, while the boys lost a close one, 5-4 to the Eagles and their number-one regional player, Collin St Clair.

The Cougars then went on the road for an overnight, weekend trip for matches at Lexington Lafayette and Montgomery County. The boys saw their record even out at 2-2 with another close loss, 3-2, to the Generals Friday evening, while the girls moved to 4-0 with a 5-0 win. Saturday at Montgomery County, both teams got 9-0 wins over the Indians.

NORTH HARDIN

According to coach Sherry Vincent, the Trojans are in a down trend and did not present much of a challenge for her squads so she had them work on different aspects of their games.

“Mental toughness is always a challenge for us,” she said. “We worked on concentration and focused on individual aspects of our game.

“We took this opportunity to work on first-service percentage and our return game. This also gave some of our younger players an opportunity to gain playing experience. This was a good early-season opponent because our players could work on their weaknesses and build confidence.”
