An unidentified Leitchfield 11-year-old was transported Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center after being struck by a car about 4:15 p.m..

Leitchfield Police reported the driver of the vehicle, Caryn Lewis, of Leitchfield, saw a boy and a girl waking toward the roadway as she topped the hill on South Clinton.

Lewis told police that as soon as she saw the children were not going to stop, she applied her brakes but was unable to stop the van she was driving..

Bryan Hammons of the LPD, said the officer believed the van hit the pedestrian a glancing blow with the right front quarter panel.

The damage to the vehicle, which included a small dent on the quarter panel and loss of the right hub cap seemed to support this theory, Hammons said. Hammons went on to report, there was no evidence as to whether the 11-year-old was entering the roadway or if he was standing next to the road.

Donna Ranger, a relative of the victim, reported the boy was taken to Kosair Childrens Hospital in Louisville and is being treated for an injury to his ankle and a skull fracture.
