The hearing, held by the City Council, is preliminary to signing a contract for continued service by Comcast.
Richard Huff, of Leitchfield, came to the meeting and told Comcast officials their signal “goes off during the week (Channel 7), and WAVE-TV in Louisville goes off on weekends, and when you call about it, they're rude, they tell you nothing's wrong, tell you to call the Atlanta office, or they just hang up on you.”
Tim Hagan, Comcast general manager in Elizabethtown, also heard complaints about Comcast changing channel numbers with no warning.
Hagan said there should have been a 30-day notice before any channel change. He took notes on other complaints and assured Huff he would “get to the bottom of the problem.”
Other complaints included “holes in the line-up, more channels need to be added to Basic, the price for the service is too high, and Kentucky Educational Television should be added to Basic.
Hagan said any additions to the Comcast offerings “would depend on customer requests, the cost of adding the programs and the funding available to Comcast.”
The council will approve or disapprove the franchise contract in the coming three years, but the door was left open for other public comment before the final contract was approved or turned down.
The rate now for Basic cable is $46, and this rate is the only thing the city can regulate.
