The Grayson County golf team bids farewell to two seniors but looks toward a bright future with the young teams set for next year.

The golf boosters hosted the end- of- year banquet on Thursday October 12 at the Centre on the Main. The graduating seniors were honored, as well as both the girls and boys regional golf teams. Each player was recognised for his or her unique qualities with special award to some players.

Each year the seniors are honored and recognised and this season was no different from previous years as both Coach Alexander and Asst. Coach Meredith spoke of the special graduating seniors with fond memories and wishes for bright futures. Both Beth Shultz and Kyle Skaggs will be hard to replace next year. Not only are they terrific golfers but great humans as well. Meredith said they set great examples for the younger golfers and that they were proud of both of them.

The J.V. boys awards were given to freshman Brett Stone for most improved player and eighth grader Kyles Blessitt received the award for the lowest J.V. Average.

The varsity boys were recognized when senior Kyle Skaggs was given the lowest average award and the academic award.

Blake Collins received the best attitude award because of the great example he set for his fellow players and Grant Collins received the team player award because he made several decisions during the year that were in the best interest of the team.

Brad Alexander was awarded the most improved spot on the varsity team and T.J. Woods was given the varsity newcomer award.

The most interesing award of the evening went to Joe Sumner. He was given the Courage Award because while on a cruise his sister had fallen out of a banana boat and without hesitation Joe jumped in the water to rescue her.

The J.V. girls awards were given to Brooke Bratcher for most improved player and Catey Logsdon received the 100% Award.

Beth Shultz received the academic award as well as the lowest average for the girls varsity team. Devon Dunn received the the courage award because of difficulties she faced with a great attitude both on and off the course.

Team player went to Tessa Nelson and best attitude was awarded to Brianna Shultz because she faced every shot with a calm attitude no matter how close or far away her ball went to the hole.

Varsity new comer award went to Paige Higdon, who will be the player to keep your eye on in the future. With barely six months experience she earned herself a very secure spot on the varsity girls team.

The banquet closed with a slide presentation of the golfers with pictures provided by the parents.

Both coaches are looking forward to next season . With young teams with lots of talent they hope to improve and earn spots at the state tournament.
