At its regular Sept. 11 meeting, the commission approved the first of two readings of the following rates:
Vehicle and watercraft tax, 10 cents per $100 value; real estate tax, 8 cents per $100 value; and personal property tax, 10.20 cents per $100 value.
After action on the tax rates, commissioners discussed the sale of 3.6 acres of land it owns near the new on- and off-ramps at the parkway.
Since a city employee wants to bid on the property, commissioners decided to rebid the land to avoid a conflict of interest.
A special meeting was set for 6:30 p.m. Monday (Sept. 18) at City Hall to give anyone else a chance to bid on the land.
The commission also approved adding a street light on Clarkson's Main Street. The new light would be about midway between the funeral home and the intersection of Main and Hwy. 88.
Mayor Bonnie Henderson said the Honeyfest banners, 65 of them, have been hung in preparation for Honeyfest at the end of September.
She said the Honeyfest Committee has decided to split up the various categories in contests this year “so that there could be more winners and not the same people winning every year.”
She said work has begun on the new ramps entering and exiting Ford Parkway. She said the ramps “probably won't be ready for drivers to use before July 2007.”
