A mother and her two young children were transported to the hospital Thursday afternoon (Sept. 7) after a one-vehicle accident four miles west of Leitchfield on Highway 54.

According to a report filed by Deputy Matt Darst with the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero driven by 22-year-old Nicole D. Shartzer of Leitchfield was traveling west on Hwy. 54 when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a ditch.

The vehicle then reportedly became airborne and landed on the passenger's side, overturning one time.

According to the Sheriff's Department, the car landed on its wheels in the middle of a nearby field.

The vehicle reportedly sustained very severe damage as a result of the wreck.

Shartzer, her 2-year-old son and her nearly one- week-old son were transported by the Grayson County EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

The accident occurred just after 12:30 p.m.
