County firefighters were busy Tuesday (Aug. 8) as fires destroyed one home and damaged another.

According to Clarkson Fire Chief Andy Cain, the Clarkson Fire Department responded to a house fire Tuesday morning at 907 Annie Boone Road -- a home belonging to Jerry Compton.

Cain told the News-Gazette Thursday afternoon that the home had been burning for about an hour before anyone noticed the blaze.

When the CFD arrived on the scene, the roof of the home had reportedly already collapsed.

Cain said the home was a “total loss.”

And firefighters from both Wax and Clarkson responded to a house fire Tuesday afternoon on Pine Circle Drive near Nolin Lake in Rocking Hill Estates.

The fire was reportedly caused by lightning striking the home, according to Wax Fire Chief David Strader.

Strader said the fire was contained to a front bedroom of the home. However, Strader said there was some smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
