The Grascals perform their innovative blend of bluegrass and country music on the next edition of Jubilee, airing Wednesday, Aug. 16 at 8 p.m. (7 p.m. CDT) on KET1.

The band, which includes two members from Leitchfield, honors traditional bluegrass music even as it attempts to send it in new directions.

Winners of the 2006 Emerging Artist of the Year award from the International Bluegrass Music Association, the Grascals boast more than two decades of bluegrass experience.

They have provided recording and tour support for Dolly Parton and three members of the Grascals-Terry Smith, Terry Eldredge and Jimmy Mattingly were members of the well-known bluegrass band the Osborne Brothers.

Jimmy Mattingly performed on three of Garth Brooks' albums as well. The band's newest release is titled Long List of Heartaches.

The Grascals' lineup consists of Eldredge and Jamie Johnson on lead vocals and guitar, Smith on bass and harmony vocals and David Talbot on banjo and harmony vocals.

Other members are fiddler Mattingly and mandolin player Danny Roberts, both of whom grew up on farms in Leitchfield, Ky.

Jubilee is a KET production, produced by H. Russell Farmer. Nancy Carpenter is executive producer. The program is close-captioned for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
