A family outing took a tragic turn Thursday (June 22) as a Hardinsburg man lost his life after drowning in Rough River Lake.

According to Assistant Breckinridge County Coroner Tim Bandy, Jason Hargrove, 29, of Hardinsburg, was on a family outing at North Fork Beach (Rough River State Park) when he went out to retrieve a frisbee that had gone into the water.

Bandy said that Hargrove “became distressed, went under the water and didn't come back up.”

According to Bandy, Breckinridge County Dispatch was notified just before 11:30 a.m.

And in addition to Breck Central EMS personnel, Bandy said that a dive team from Grayson County, the McDaniels Fire Department, the Kentucky State Police, the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Department also responded to the scene of Thursday's drowning and participated in the search and recovery efforts.
