A two-vehicle accident on the Western Kentucky Parkway Friday afternoon (Mar. 31) sent two people to the hospital and police say alcohol may have played a role in the accident.

According to the Kentucky State Police, the accident occurred around the 124 mile marker (near White Mills) just after 5 p.m.

The KSP reported that a 1989 Mazda 626 being driven by Cheryl L. Howard, 44, of 422 East Poplar, Elizabethtown, was traveling westbound on the WK Parkway when she reportedly lost control of her car and crossed the median.

Howard's vehicle then reportedly entered the eastbound lane, where it struck a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire being driven by Josh Miller, 22, of 150 McKinney Circle, Combs (KY).

Police said the impact caused Miller's vehicle to lose control and leave the right shoulder of the roadway, where it came to final rest.

Howard's car reportedly began flipping and came to rest on the right shoulder of the roadway on its top.

The KSP said that Miller was transported to University Hospital in Louisville by LifeNet Air Transport, where he was listed in stable condition as of Saturday morning (Apr. 1).

A passenger in Miller's car, a 16-year-old girl, was taken to the emergency room at Hardin Memorial Hospital, police said, where she was treated for injuries sustained in the crash.

After being treated and released at Hardin Memorial, the KSP reported that Howard was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Howard was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center.

The investigation is still ongoing, the KSP reported.
