“We've had several people come in,” District Manager Kevin Shaw told Monday's meeting of the Water Board, “and they've asked that the school mascot (cougar) logo be painted on the side of the tank.”
Shaw said the district had decided to paint all three of the new tanks -- the others at Lone Hill and on 259N -- white, since that was the most cost-efficient and longest-lasting choice.
Shaw suggested and the board agreed that groups such as sports booster clubs could have the logo on the tank but would have to raise the money for the work. A ballpark cost, including specific paint, painter and crane, might run as high as $7,000.
The Leitchfield tank, expected to be finished within fewer than 10 days, is the last of the three tanks to be finished. It is very visible in both directions by travelers on U.S. 62 in east Leitchfield. None of the tanks have yet been painted.
And the district's new office-storage building on Flower Garden Lane directly behind the WRECC Building in Leitchfield is nearly finished.
Shaw said personnel have already started moving into the building, and the storage bays are filling up with district equipment.
He said final inspections of the electrical, heating and air conditioning systems were finished. Only a state inspection of the entire facility is lacking at this point, he said.
The board also approved a contract with Nextel Communications that allows Nextel to place antennas on the new water towers that did not interfere with district radios.
Before adjourning, the board recognized the crew at the Rough River Water Treatment Plant. They were chosen as the top Water and Wastewater Plant Operators from the four plants in the final statewide competition.
