A Clarkson man is dead after a one-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 21).

According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, a vehicle being driven by Dennis Wayne Higdon, 48, of 139 Wilbur Higdon Road, was traveling west on Ky. 88 (Peonia Road), about seven miles east of Clarkson, when he reportedly drove off the right side of the road, came back across the roadway and struck an embankment on the left side.

The 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix being driven by Higdon then traveled approximately 450 feet down the ditch line before finally coming to rest, the sheriff's department report said.

According to the report, due to the doors of the vehicle being locked, the passenger side window of Higdon's car had to be broken out, so emergency workers could gain access to Higdon.

Higdon's vehicle, however, reportedly sustained just “minor damage” as a result of the accident.

CPR was then started, the sheriff's department said, until the Grayson County EMS arrived on the scene.

Higdon was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center “and was later pronounced dead by the emergency room doctor,” the report said.

Autopsy results are pending, the sheriff's department reported.

In addition to the sheriff's department and EMS, the Clarkson and Anneta Fire Departments also responded to Tuesday's accident, which occurred just after 4:30 p.m.
