The Clarkson City Commission is working to get a walkway for students crossing the railroad tracks at the new vehicle crossing.

Mayor Bonnie Henderson told commissioners Monday (Feb. 13) the Paducah & Louisville Railroad had agreed to build a pedestrian crossway level with the rails.

She said the city would have to build sidewalks between the streets and the rail crossing, but she said P&L assured her that the construction could begin as soon as safety instructions could be presented to students.

She said a culvert would have to be installed but the county had agreed to do that.

Henderson also reported ramp construction from Ford Parkway may begin as early as this summer.

She said the State Department of Highways is waiting for federal dollars, originally slated to arrive in February 2007, that may arrive before that date.

Henderson said the Highway Department still is negotiating with two property owners in the ramp construction area, but this should not delay the work.

Part of the project, she said, would be resurfacing U.S. 62 from the Thomason Bypass to the intersection with Highway 224 in Clarkson.

Henderson also said she expected the railroad crossing near the City Park to be lighted “just as soon as the federal dollars show up.”
