7th-graders pound McLean

HARNED - In the opening round of the GRVC 7th-grade tournament, the Cougars got scoring from 13 different players in a 56-24 rout of McLean County.

The win put the Cougars (11-7) into Tuesday night's second-round game against Muhlenberg North, with the winner getting to play in Thursday's championship game.

The Cougars never trailed in the game, scoring the first eight points before leading 11-3 at the end of the first quarter.

After McLean County opened the second-period scoring with a three-pointer, the Cougars got back-to-back threes from Evand Donald and Josh Hudson to go up by 11 points, 17-6 at the 4:44 mark. The Cougars led by 18 at the half, 29-11, then by 20 at the end of the third quarter, 40-20.

Grayson County's defense held McLean to just four points in the fourth quarter, while bench players increased the lead to as many as 35 points.

Tyler Mullins led all scorers in the game with 10 points. Hunter Gary added seven points, while Wes Trail and Gavin Alvey had six each. Donald finished with five points, while Daniel Buckles, J. D. Majors and Brady Clemons had four apiece.

Hudson and Corey Travis both finished with three points, Tyler Downs had two and Brooks Gorby and Trevor Brooks both finished with one to round out the Cougar scoring.
