Nine candidates have filed for Leitchfield City Council, including all six of the incumbent council members.

The list includes Incumbent Kelly Stevenson, 302 Wallace Avenue, Leitchfield; William “Billy” Dallas, 19 Boswell Court, Leitchfield; Stephen Dennison, 109 Hanging Rock Road, Leitchfield; Leon Shaw, 112 Valley View Drive, Leitchfield; James Wales Montgomery, 108 Sunset Drive, Leitchfield; and Brenda Green Huffman, 1208 James Street, Leitchfield.

The three new candidates are Richard “Craig” Embry, 362 Fountain View Drive, Leitchfield; Gerald “Jerry” Schlosser, 102 Walnut Hill Drive, Leitchfield; and Richard L. Hardin, 304 Winn Drive, Leitchfield.

Mayor William H. Thomason is running unopposed.

All the council candidates will appear on the November ballot, not on the May Primary ballot. The winning six council members will be based in descending order of the number of votes.

Council candidates would have appeared on the May Primary ballot only if there had been 13 people filing for the six open positions.

Both the Caneyville and Clarkson public offices will be on the November ballot, but candidates in both have some extra time to decide whether or not to run. In both cities, candidates have until August 8 to file.

There will also be an election for two school board seats, but these candidates also have until August 8 to file.

All candidates that will appear on the May ballot will meet at the Grayson County Court Clerk's office at 2 p.m. Thursday to draw for positions on the ballot.

Any candidate with no in-party opposition will not appear on the May Primary ballot.
