For the second time in a week, fire has claimed the home of a Grayson County family.
Just before 1 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 19) firefighters from Wax, Clarkson and Leitchfield responded to a trailer fire in Whispering Pines Circle, off Twin Coves Road, a home belonging to Bill and Linda Mudd.
Neither Bill nor Linda were home at the time of the fire, and according to Wax Fire Chief David Strader, the Mudd's home was pretty much burned up by the time firefighters arrived on the scene.
Strader said the fire, which apparently originated in the Mudd's trailer, then spread to a trailer next door to the Mudd's. And while the exterior of that trailer showed little damage, Strader said that by the time firefighters were finished, it too, was also a total loss.
That trailer, witnesses said, was unoccupied at the time of the fire and is owned by a Louisville resident.
Thursday's fire also spread to two outbuildings and two pick-up trucks owned by the Mudd's and according to Strader, the blaze destroyed them all.
“They lost everything they had,” Strader said.
As for what caused the fire, Strader said that he has “no idea.”
Because of the extent of the damage, he said that the cause “might be undetermined.”
While both Clarkson and Leitchfield departments cleared the scene earlier in the afternoon, Strader said that Wax remained on the scene until about 5:30.
There were no injuries reported as a result of Thursday's fire.
