The one year the kids actually have the appropriate snow sledding gear, we've had no accumulation to play in.
They got new sleds for Christmas and we're all ready to use them. Hopefully, these new sleds are going to be safer than the one we made last year.
We desperately wanted to go sledding last year when we had a big snow, but we didn't have a sled. Barry took off to the barn to find something to pull us behind the four wheeler.
Shortly he returned with a big, blue plastic barrel. This was going to be fun.
He had to take the barrel to the garage to make a few changes, the kids could have fit into the barrel, but not me, and I wanted to play too.
So he cut the barrel in two. I was going to have to be the guinea pig to see if this sled was even halfway safe for the kids to ride on.
We found an old piece of carpet to cushion our bottoms and did we ever need it, the ground was hard as a rock. Of course, Barry had to be funny and punch the gas as we took off.
Trying to stay inside that barrel was like trying to stay on a mad bull for eight seconds -- impossible. The kids were amazed they hadn't ever seen their mom move so gracefully across the yard, until we started going around in circles, then they got to see their mom do flips across the yard and have my face buried into the snow.
The kids couldn't wait until their turn seeing all the fun Barry was having trying to throw me from the barrel. They would scream for him to go faster, but he knew to go slow or I would take him for a ride he wouldn't forget.
This year sledding will go a lot smoother, and more fun for the entire family (unless Barry has something new in mind!) We just need some snow!
