Leitchfield Police are investigating burglary or looting at J.C.'s Cigarette Outlet, Movin' Movies and Tanning, one of the stores gutted Dec. 29 by fire.

Detective Todd Cave said that before and after the fire on Thursday (Dec. 29) J.C.'s was reportedly burglarized, with the alleged thieves making off with an unspecified amount of cigarettes, he said.

The investigation into the thefts is continuing and arrests have been made in the case by the LPD, Cave said, “and more arrests are expected.”

Fire Department officials still hadn't settled on a cause for the fire, but Assistant Fire Chief Carl Smith said an electrical inspector was working at the fire site Tuesday.

Cave said LPD also is investigating a second break-in that occurred on Wednesday (Dec. 28) at the American Legion Post 81.

According to Cave, robbers “forcibly” gained access to the building and stole an undetermined amount of money.

As of press time Tuesday, he said the case remains under investigation.

If anyone has any information regarding the case, Cave asks that you contact the LPD at (270) 259-3850.
