A Leitchfield man was seriously injured and flown to a Louisville hospital Tuesday (Dec. 13) after a midday accident.

According to Captain Bryan Hammons with the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, 55-year-old Omer Higdon, of Leitchfield, was traveling north on Highway 259 (about three miles from the Leitchfield city limits) when he apparently went across the center line of the roadway and struck a southbound vehicle being driven by Roger Priddy, 57, of Leitchfield.

Hammons said Priddy ran the Dodge Ram truck (a work truck owned by Clayton Watkins Construction) he was driving off into a ditch in an effort to avoid contact with Higdon's Ford Tempo, but was not successful, and the two vehicles collided head-on.

After the collision, Hammons said that members of the Leitchfield Fire Department spent about 20 minutes extricating Higdon from what remained of his severely damaged vehicle.

Higdon, Priddy, and 75-year-old Clayton Watkins, owner of Clayton Watkins Construction and a passenger in the truck Priddy was driving, were all transported by the Grayson County EMS to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment of their injuries.

Higdon was then flown by LifeNet to University Hospital in Louisville for more serious injuries, Hammons said.

The accident occurred shortly after 12 p.m.
