By the end of the day, a 5-month investigation had resulted in the arrest of 10 men and eight women, all processed at LPD, with help from the Detention Center and with Department of Human Resources personnel on hand in case children were involved. Two were, and they were turned over to social workers.
Drug Task Force detectives said the raid covered an area centered on Leitchfield, with some arrests coming from near Clarkson and as far west as Caneyville. All the arrests were in Grayson County.
Police reported controlled buying of meth, oxycontin, crack cocaine, marijuana and hydrocodone during the investigation. Warrants listed 54 felony charges and 10 misdeameanors.
LPD Detective Todd Cave said the raid was designed “to get the traffickers off the streets.” He said it would make a dent in the drug problem in the county, “slow things down for a while, but dealers and drugs are still out there.”
He said Monday's raid was a beginning, “and more arrests are fourthcoming.”
Officers fanned out in teams of four, Cave said, “in case we come upon an active meth lab and someone ‘jacked up' on the drug.” He said an expert on the safe disassembly of meth labs was in Leitchfield in case that happened. It did not happen Monday.
The arrests come as a result of sealed indictments (formal charges) handed down by the October Grayson County Grand Jury. Drug Task Force detectives said they expected more indictments in the near future.
